Course : 11. January till 17. March 2010

The coming course will be again blessed by the presence of H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa and he gives a 7 day course with teachings and empowerments during the mid of March. H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa has chosen the text "Letter to a friend", a classical teaching of the highly realized master Nagarjuna which he started to teach allready during his course 2009. H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa will give the initation of Manjushri and Marpa to all students and guests.

The very learned venerable Professor Sempa Dorje will be again present for the whole study course and teach "Tsema-Rigter“ the classical book of theory of perception by Sakya Pandita.

Examination: At the end of the course every student is asked to write a theses.



FIRST YEAR

1. Jewel Ornament of Liberation (Tib. thargyen) This text is by Dhakpo Rinpoche (Gampopa) who is the source of our Kagyu lineage. It is a teaching about the path that combines the tradition of the Kadampa lineage as descended from Atisha, and Mahamudra, as initiated by the great Mahasiddha Metripa.

2. Basic Tibetan language (optional) Students will be taught how to read and write classical Tibetan. Modern, spoken Tibetan is not taught.

SECOND YEAR

1. Entering the Middle Way (Tib. Umala jugpa) (Skt. Madhyamaka-avatara) This is one of the most well-known and widely taught Madhyamaka texts. The author of this book is Chandrakirti, who was one of the greatest and most famous scholars in India. He is also the one who spread widely the Prasangika Madhaymaka school, which was started by Buddhapalita.

THIRD YEAR

1. A treatise on Buddha nature (Tib. Gyu lama) (Skt. Uttara Tantra Shastra) The Uttara tantra shastra is a treatise on the Buddha nature. It is one of the five treatises by the Bodhisattva Maitreya.

1. Theory of Perception (Tsema-Rigter) explains the detailed working of mind and the different aspects related to it.

Common Class for all students:

The Heart Sutra contains the most profound teachings on emptiness and is a summerised version of Prajnaparamita teachings. The Prajnaparamita Sutra embraces the teachings on vast path and profound view of emptiness. This particular sutra is taught by Aloketishavara through the blessings of Buddha Shakyamuni, thus it is considered as the indirect speech of Buddha himself.
